What is the Certificate III in Business?

Certificate III is a level 3 qualification that allows people to qualify for skilled work. 

Certificate III in Business also sets the foundation for further learning, such as a Certificate IV or Diploma in Business.

In this course, you will learn foundational skills and knowledge that will help you kick off your career in business. This involves developing communication skills and critical thinking.

You will learn basic administrative skills required in business, such as using spreadsheets to manage records, writing simple business documents, organizing schedules, providing customer service, doing operational tasks, and providing support in various work contexts. 

The Certificate III program incorporates existing practice and emerging trends in business, so you will earn readily transferable professional skills and knowledge.

Course structure

BSB30120 Certificate III in Business consists of six (6) core units and seven (7) electives tailored based on your target outcomes.

BSBCRT311 – Apply critical thinking skills in a team environment

When working in a team environment setting, you may face some obstacles and problems. This core unit teaches you critical thinking skills and how you can apply them to come up with solutions to workplace challenges.

You will also learn how to think critically and creatively in a team environment in varying issues and situations. Likewise, this unit enhances your problem-solving, evaluation, and analytical skills.

BSBPEF201 – Support personal wellbeing in the workplace

In this core unit, you will learn how to advocate for your personal wellbeing and feel empowered in the workplace. You will gain basic knowledge of factors that can affect personal wellbeing in the workplace. This unit applies directly to people working under direct supervision, as well as those who are joining the workforce for the first time.

BSBSUS211 – Participate in sustainable work practices

Businesses need to have sustainability of work practices. In this core unit, you will gain skills and knowledge needed to allow you to measure, support, and find opportunities for that. You will also develop a better sense of competency, authority, and responsibility, especially when you work under direct supervision.

BSBTWK301 – Use inclusive work practices

Inclusion and diversity in the workplace is an ongoing advocacy across industries. So, the workplace consists of diverse groups of individuals with varying qualities and personalities. This core unit teaches you how to thrive in that setting and interact with your colleagues productively.

You will learn inclusive work practices and how to navigate through your individual differences and work effectively. Furthermore, this core touches on how you can lead and guide others, especially when your role requires you to have limited responsibility for your team’s output.

BSBWHS311 – Assist with maintaining workplace safety

In this core unit, you will develop the required knowledge and skills to assist businesses in implementing and monitoring work health and safety (WHS). It covers workplace safety policies, procedures, and WHS programs that you need to follow and participate in as a team member. Moreover, this unit involves the safe delivery of products and services. 

BSBXCM301 – Engage in workplace communication

Communication skills are crucial in any business, particularly in fulfilling business administration tasks. This core unit teaches you the skills and knowledge required to communicate in the workplace, whether that’s written, oral, or nonverbal. You can apply such skills and knowledge in any industry. Furthermore, this unit focuses on communication skills that you need when you work with limited responsibility for others.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available on most Prestige Service Training qualifications.

If you have completed formal or informal training and have knowledge, skills, and employment experience in this area, you may apply for RPL.

You will be asked to provide evidence to support your application, and our Operations team will assist you through the RPL assessment process.

Credit is also available for this qualification. If you have completed a previous study in this qualification or an equivalent, you can provide a copy of your transcript from your earlier study and we will conduct a credit assessment.

What’s the difference between a Certificate I, II, III, IV, and a diploma?

Australia has different levels of certification to standardize qualifications in the country. Certificates I and II provide basic vocational skills and knowledge and allow people to qualify for mainly routine work.

Certificates III and IV provide more advanced skills and knowledge. As discussed above, Certificate III allows you to undertake skilled work. It is also equivalent to Year 12.
