Overview – what is the RSA + RGS Short Course
The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Gambling Services (RSG) short course is a skill set that is required for anyone who works in a licensed venue in Queensland. This course covers both the legal and practical aspects of responsible alcohol and gambling service and equips participants with the skills and knowledge they need to help reduce alcohol-related and gambling-related harm.
The face-to-face delivery of this course allows participants to learn from experienced trainers and interact with other participants in a classroom setting. This format is ideal for those who prefer to learn in a traditional environment and who benefit from hands-on activities and group discussions.

The RSA and RSG short course covers a wide range of topics, including:
- The laws and regulations governing the sale and service of alcohol and gambling in Queensland
- The physiological and social effects of alcohol and gambling
- How to identify and manage intoxicated and problem gamblers
- How to refuse the sale or service of alcohol and gambling to customers
- How to promote responsible alcohol and gambling consumption
- Short course name: Provide responsible service of alcohol + Provide responsible gambling services (RSA + RGS)

- RSA = 3.5 hours
- RSA + RGS = 8 hours
- Delivery: Face-to-face learning with an online assessment component

- SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services

Entry requirements and eligibility
To enrol in the RSA + RGS course, applicants must be at least 16 years old. Additionally, students need minimum computer literacy, Microsoft Office 365 access, and unrestricted internet access. They should also be able to record assessments and provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) at enrolment. The Student Handbook provides full details on entry requirements. The course requires an online assessment component to be completed by the participant outside of the course times.
Delivery
The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Gambling Services (RSG) short course is delivered in a face-to-face classroom format. Before the course begins, participants will be required to complete an online assessment. This component provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts of RSA and RSG. The face-to-face component follows, where participants will engage in interactive learning activities to further enhance their knowledge and skills in the subject.

Work Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the RSA and RSG short course, participants will be awarded a Statement of Attainment. This statement of attainment will allow participants to work in any licensed venue in Queensland where alcohol and/or gambling is served.
